Outage Readiness

Most power outages are caused by falling trees or limbs during wind, snow or ice storms. Others may be due to vehicles hitting poles, lightning strikes, or equipment failure on the regional transmission system or locally. To maintain reliable electrical service, we trim trees that interfere with overhead power lines. Please help by letting us know if you discover trees growing into power lines.

It’s a good idea to be prepared in case your power is interrupted. Prepare an emergency kit that contains the following:

  • flashlights
  • extra batteries
  • candles
  • matches
  • blankets
  • battery-operated radio

It’s also a good idea to store a supply of drinking water and non-perishable food. To protect your sensitive equipment, including personal computers, televisions, VCRs and stereos, make sure to use a surge suppressor.
