Kaukauna Utilities is making significant progress on its transformative reverse osmosis water treatment project that will deliver higher quality water to our community.
Design Milestones Achieved
Renderings for both Water Treatment Plants have been reviewed and approved by the Kaukauna Utilities Commission, City of Kaukauna Plan Commission, and Common Council – bringing us one step closer to construction.

Successful Pilot Study Completed
The in-field pilot study wrapped up in January and confirmed favorable water quality results, including an estimated finished water target hardness of 5.5 grains, a substantial improvement from the current ~40 grains. The study’s final report was approved by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) in April.
Sustainability in Design
Geothermal heating and cooling systems will be integrated into both facilities. This incorporation will save on operational and maintenance costs while supporting our sustainability goals.
What’s Next
- Final design of plans and specifications is underway
- Plan submission to the WDNR expected in June
- Public Service Commission of Wisconsin approval for the Certificate of Authority anticipated by August
