Kite Safety

This Barbie kite got caught up in some live power lines while looking for her Ken kite. The owner of the kite did a good job not touching the kite and telling her parents right away. A string was still connected to the kite and was touching the pavement. This is a potentially dangerous situation as kites and power lines don’t mix. Electrical currents always seek the quickest route to the ground. A kite string that is wet, dirty or contains metal or any other conductive material, can detour the electricity from the power line to the ground, using the string and the person flying the kite as conductors. Special thanks toKaukauna Utilities who were able to safely remove the kite from the power lines.

So, go fly a kite! Just remember safety first.
