Understanding your bill: What is the PCA?

You may notice that the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA) on your electric bill changes from month to month. Unlike your regular per-kWh energy charge, which is set through the regulated rate process, the PCA is not a fixed rate. It reflects changes in the cost of purchasing wholesale power and can fluctuate based on seasonal energy prices, customer demand, and other factors.

Why can the PCA be higher in summer?

Hot weather increases electricity demand across the region, which can drive up wholesale power costs. At the same time, many homes and businesses use more electricity for cooling – meaning you may be using more energy when wholesale power costs are also higher.
