Kaukauna Utilities Recognized Nationally for Safety and Reliability

Kaukauna Utilities (KU) is proud to announce it has received three recognitions from the American Public Power Association (APPA), highlighting the utility’s commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Safety Award of Excellence – Diamond Level

KU earned the APPA Safety Award of Excellence with a Diamond designation for 2025, the highest level of recognition in its category.

Safety is KU’s top priority, and this recognition reflects the organization’s commitment to protecting employees and the community. Award recipients are evaluated based on incident-free records and the strength of their overall safety programs and culture.

Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) – Diamond Level

KU has also earned the RP3 designation at the Diamond level, which recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate excellence in reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. This designation is valid for three years.

KU joins more than 250 public power utilities nationwide that hold the RP3 designation and is among a select group (less than 5% of all public power utilities in the nation) recognized at the Diamond level for excellence in safe, reliable electric service.

National Recognition for Excellence in Electric Reliability

KU was further recognized for achieving exceptional electric reliability in 2025. This recognition is based on outage and restoration data benchmarked against national statistics from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

A key measure of reliability is the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), which tracks the average total duration of power outages experienced by customers. KU achieved a SAIDI of just 21 minutes (excluding major event days), significantly outperforming the national average of 169 minutes. This means KU customers experienced about 90 percent less outage time than the typical utility customer in the United States.
