Kaukauna Utilities Employee Recognized for Outstanding Community Service
MADISON, WIS., September 12 – Wisconsin Public Power Inc. (WPPI) recognized Don Krause for his outstanding achievement in community service. WPPI presented Krause with the Volunteer Power Award at its annual meeting on September 11 in Middleton.
Krause has a deep commitment to public service and helping others. As a dedicated community leader, Krause has a longstanding relationship with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a Cub Scout Leader for six years and an adult Boy Scout Leader of Troup 51 for a year and half. He is also a Cub Scout Cub Master for Pack 3151 and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Through the Boy Scouts of America, Krause has demonstrated his leadership in several ways. He trains Scout Leaders for the Bay Lakes Boy Scout Council and participates in numerous fundraising and community events. In addition, he has earned the District Award of Merit from the Boy Scouts of America.
Krause is also extremely active in Outagamie County, assisting in various community festivals and events. During Cheese Fest in Little Chute, Krause coordinated recycling efforts with Outagamie County. He was able to work with the Scouts to keep the festival grounds clean and create litter-free areas throughout the festival grounds.
Krause’s recycling efforts enable him to raise money for the Scout’s treasury and to create hands-on learning activities that highlight the importance of energy conservation. His dedication to recycling has also prompted future recycling programs at county festivals.
In 2007 and 2008, Krause worked with the Little Chute Park and Recreation Department to promote Arbor Day. Krause obtained donated trees from a local landscape company and worked with his Scouts to plant the trees in Van Lieshout Park in Little Chute. In addition, each of his Scouts was able to plant trees in their own yards as part of the program.
Krause also helps support the local schools, as he helped build a new playground at Little Chute Elementary School.
“We are proud to present this award to Don in recognition of his commitment and dedication to projects within the community,” said Roy Thilly, WPPI president and chief executive officer. “Don’s efforts and passion for helping others ensures that local Scouts are able to learn the value of community service and develop an appreciation for their community.”
Krause has served as the manager of information and technology for Kaukauna Utilities for three years and is chair of WPPI’s Information Technology Advisory Group.
